There are two very important updates that you should apply to every universal Windows 7 image that you use for OS deployment in MDT or ConfigMgr. These also apply to Server 2008, 2008R2, and Vista.
- User-Mode Driver Framework – http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2685813
- Kernel-Model Driver Framework – http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2685811
These assist with driver injection on several newer models from HP, Dell, and Lenovo, and will save you a lot of banging your head against the wall when drivers don’t apply correctly during OS deployment.
Update: At this time, both of these updates are built into the standard Windows Update catalog for all Windows 7 systems- this means that they will install automatically if you are fully patching your images.
